The photographer and poet Zuzana Lazarova invited me and several friends to Lodz for the opening of the exhibition of her collages.
The endless Piotrkowska street. The neighbourhood of Baluty and what used to be the ghetto. A former textile factory transformed into a hotel and a huge shopping mall. The largest Jewish cemetery. Hotel Savoy, which from behind looks like a prison. Off Piotrkowska, an industrial hipsterland full of restaurants, bars and clubs.
In some parts Lodz might seem like a Polish copy of Berlin: partly before the fall of the Wall, partly the present.
